I just started reading, or rereading, Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s Preacher series. Years ago I began this title, but after awhile I let it go, around issue #18, and I never got back to it. I didn’t put it down because of any dislikes or problems I had. I just stopped reading it
one day and then never got around, or took the time, to get back into the swing of the narrative. However, recently DC Comics published the last of the hardbound reprint editions, so I thought it a good time to go back and read the entire series from beginning to end. It being so long since I first read the comic, I had forgotten much of what went on in the series. I remembered the set up with Genesis, but I was rather sketchy on the rest of it…at least the parts that I had read. I like Dillon’s art, and Ennis’s writing, while quite violent at times, is nonetheless engaging and reveals a twisted sense of humor. He creates memorable characters that easily carry the story lines, set up as a journal narrative. I have all six hardbound editions now, and I look forward to one hell of a wild ride.
